#12 Hey, Nice Lawn!
“I like ‘em brown, yellow, Puerto Rican or Haitian”
Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest) – Electric Relaxation
“French Vanilla, Butter Pecan, Chocolate Deluxe. Even Caramel Sundaes are getting touched. Scooped in my ice cream truck.”
Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan) – Ice Cream
“Now that's Spanish chick, French chick, Indian and Black. That's fried chicken, curry chicken, damn I'm gettin’ fat. Arroz con pollo, french fries and crepe. An appetite for destruction, but I scrape the plate.”
Jay-Z – Girls Girls Girls
That’s three classic Hip-Hop songs. All with the same common theme: Diversify your options. Be open to dating women of other races. Notice in the songs, they didn’t exclude Black women from their lists. Yeah, the Black women were listed last, but at least they were listed. I’m sure other black men can relate to this: At some point in the past, those Black women where at the forefront of that list. But somewhere along the line, they slipped. I too, have crossed that threshold. After disappointments and neglect from Black women, I decided to test the waters in interracial dating. I needed to see if the grass was truly greener on the other side of the fence.
It’s a unique experience dating a woman of another race. I enjoy being introduced to different cultures and cuisine. Spanish cookin’ is heavenly. MMM MMM MMM. Same goes for Asian. Although I haven’t met Miss Right through interracial dating, I can say its been a pleasant experience. The tough part wasn’t me coming to the decision of dating outside my race. What is difficult is getting women of other ethnicities to give a Black Man a chance. These women bring their biases and opinions of Black Men to the table. It is definitely a challenge just to get their attention.
You can blame the negative images of Black men on television and in the media for a lot of that thought. The level of diverse social interaction that a person has had also becomes plays a factor. I’ve noticed it is a lot harder to meet and approach an Asian woman. I’m talking a person of Japanese, Chinese or Korean descent. If the person is a foreign transplant, you have to deal with language barriers. If that person is Americanized; that is grew up in the USA, most likely they grew up in a predominately white area. Maybe even in a white household having been adopted. In both cases a Black Man, regardless of your level of education or character, has an uphill battle proving they are an ideal soulmate. Quite possibly if I lived on the Pacific Coast that would not be the case. I can only speak from my own experience.
That experience is having, at best, merely becoming good friends with an Asian (American) woman. One chick in particular I was really attracted too. We worked together. Let’s call her Seaweed. She was American in every sense of the word. Grew up in an affluent area that would make a lot of white folks envious. Anyway, Seaweed gave me the old “I’m still on the rebound” story. She ended up moving away for a job promotion, but right before she left, she had met a dude that she was digging. We kept in touch while she was away. She and this dude were weathering the long distance relationship storm. They did their best to make it work. Eventually she moved back, they got married and lived happily ever after. We’ll I’m not sure about the last part. But I know they have some kids now. I guess I shouldn’t hate, right? Eh, I’ll hate a little, because the dude she came back for was a white guy. Kind of average looking guy. I’ve never met him, but she would tell me he was a great guy. I guess I should take her word for it. Why is it that Asian women will give any white guy, not matter how average he is, a chance? But a Black man can’t get the time of day. I don’t care if you are a lawyer, investment broker, or a doctor. I know part of it is the social status of marrying a white man. That’s the king of the mountain, if you will. In their minds anything less would be settling. I’ll blog on this topic again, for sure.
On to my senoritas!! Latinos are the fastest growing minority in the US. That being said, chances are that I will date more Hispanic women in the future. That would be just fine with me. Latinas have a natural beauty that is undeniable. Similar to Black folks, their skin comes in all shades, their hair in all textures. But unlike Black women, they are confident in their beauty. They don’t feel the need to go overboard with the fake accessories. Take all that and add a sexy Spanish accent and I’m putty in their hands. Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Mendez, Jessica Alba, Salma Hayek, all absolutely stunning women. Puerto Rican, Mexican, Cuban, etc. Sexy. My experience dating Latinas is limited, and I attribute that what I call the “crap shoot”. You are rolling the dice when you approach a Latina. You may find one that has no problem at all dating a Black man, or you may end up with one that doesn’t associate with Blacks. It’s hard to tell which is which. That’s something I have to work on.
I find Native American women, incredibly attractive. Unfortunately, I live in an area where the Native American population is low. Hell, I may be walking next to one and mistake her for being Hispanic. Again, natural beauty. Interesting culture with an emphasis on tradition and pride. That’s something missing in the Black community.
I’ve saved the best for last. East Indian/South Asian women are incredibly beautiful. Of all the women I am attracted too, Indian women take the cake. They’re features are so striking. Exotic and erotic. Hypnotic eyes. Long silky hair. They come in all shades, but the dark complexioned South Asians are the most attractive. Bottom line, they have it all. Physically that is. But if her mind isn’t right, they it’s all for nothing. As I said before, I will dedicate a whole blog to my attraction to Indian women.
Everyone is different. I can’t make a blanket statement that ALL women of a certain race are better suited for relationships than another. That would be ignorant. Until “the one” enters my life, I’ll keep my options open. Date women who interest me, regardless of race. And hopefully, I’ll pick a winner.
